Illustration Friday - Instinct (Silver elephant necklace)

"They (Elephants) are born with fewer survival instincts than many other animals. Instead, they must rely on their elders to teach them the things they need to know. Today, however, the pressures humans have put on the wild elephant populations, from poaching to habitat destruction, mean that the elderly often die at a younger age, leaving fewer teachers for the young".
I made this elephant necklace and is on sale at Frilldesign Etsy shop.

Silver name tag jewellery

For Jewelled www.jewelled.infoI made this silver necklace a few months ago, as a commission (pierced out from sheet silver). Today had to shorten the chain for the customer, so I took the chance of photographing it.

Illustration friday - Celebration

After getting some work done, celebrating with a cup of tea (maybe a bit of cake) is perfect!

Jewellery work bench

While I was working at home today, I took the opportunity to photograph my work bench.

Jewellery work in progress - back from casting

The handcarved bird and elephant (in wax) is back from casting. These are all cast in silver. I have roughly cleaned them up (the polishing compound is still visible in the grooves). Before these go into my ESTY shop, I will solder on jump rings and give them a final polish for a high shine.

Monogram Necklaces - Emily and Ashley

If advertising your star sign with a zodiac necklace is not your kind of thing, then maybe the shift (after the popularity of name necklace) to the subtle monogram necklace is more appealing.
This lovely Emily & Ashley 14k yellow gold and sapphire engraved pendant is 3/4" in diameter on a 17"chain.

Big Necklaces, bibs

Just a few of my favourite bib necklaces from Accessorize. Nothing demure or delicate about jewellery at the moment ...big is big.

Ben Tallon Illustrator

After browsing through This months Computer Arts magazine, an Illustration caught my eye. Addressing issues "theres a big world out there with a lot of terrible things happening" Ben Tallons illustrations are strikingly bold. Ben Tallons website:

Illustration Friday - Time

Seeing that Frilldesign blog is all about decoration, adornment of sorts....time spent on beautifying can be a frustrating task if time doesn't allow for fate. A broken fingernail to grow back!!!! no amount of varnish will sort that out....

Handcarved wax models ready for casting

I had these designs in my sketchbook from a long time ago. Today, at last, I have found the time to handcarve an elephant and bird. These will be sent to cast in silver next week. Once cleaned up and a mould made, these will be on sale in Frilldesign ETSY shop. I will post pictures of the final pieces on Frilldesign blog.

Zoe and Morgan Jewellery

With stunning packaging and jewellery to match is there anything Zoe and Morgan can do wrong. Their website is stylish and new (nice to see jewellery design moving away from the traditional retail jeweller look).

There jewellery collection is not comprehensive on their website:

However its best to browse Zoe and Morgan stockist list to see their collection. One includes

Commission for Silver figure of 8 for leather Bracelet

Above, figure of 8 after forming and soldering...some difference after a polish. A customer bought a leather necklace to double over as a bracelet. The bracelet would unfold, so I made a silver figure of 8 (clasp/holder) to keep the strands together. Made by me for Jewelled

Hold up! Snow - everything stops

What should be a day at work, is now a day of blog....and snowmen. No trains running, roads not save to drive. Over a foot of snow, the entrance to my house is blocked.

Accessorize, Victoria and Albert jewellery collection - Earrings

Above Earrings and a pendant (bottom right) from Accessorize

Above displayed V&A : 1800 - 1900 Gold earrings from Oporto

Above displayed at V&A: European 1st century-4th century gold emerald matrix earrings, below also displayed at V&A: Pique, tortoiseshell inlaid with gold ca, 1850 England.
Saturday was a busy day in London. I went to The V&A to look at The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery. Sadly because of security I was unable to take pictures. Its a stunning display (much better than the turnstile gallery days).
All the details of the display can be found here

I also had a look around Accessorize. Costume jewellery is great for ever changing trend. £6.00 a pair of earrings, they are are not precious. Above are some earrings that caught my eye at The V&A and at Accessorize.
