"They (Elephants) are born with fewer survival instincts than many other animals. Instead, they must rely on their elders to teach them the things they need to know. Today, however, the pressures humans have put on the wild elephant populations, from poaching to habitat destruction, mean that the elderly often die at a younger age, leaving fewer teachers for the young".
I made this elephant necklace and is on sale at Frilldesign Etsy shop. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6264368
For Jewelled www.jewelled.infoI made this silver necklace a few months ago, as a commission (pierced out from sheet silver). Today had to shorten the chain for the customer, so I took the chance of photographing it.

The handcarved bird and elephant (in wax) is back from casting. http://frilldesign.blogspot.com/2009/02/handcarved-wax-models-ready-for-casting.html. These are all cast in silver. I have roughly cleaned them up (the polishing compound is still visible in the grooves). Before these go into my ESTY shop, I will solder on jump rings and give them a final polish for a high shine.

If advertising your star sign with a zodiac necklace is not your kind of thing, then maybe the shift (after the popularity of name necklace) to the subtle monogram necklace is more appealing.
This lovely Emily & Ashley 14k yellow gold and sapphire engraved pendant is 3/4" in diameter on a 17"chain.
Available from Max and Chloe:http://www.maxandchloe.com/fulldetails/1038/-1/67

After browsing through This months Computer Arts magazine, an Illustration caught my eye. Addressing issues "theres a big world out there with a lot of terrible things happening" Ben Tallons illustrations are strikingly bold. Ben Tallons website: http://www.benandink.co.uk/

One thing I have noticed is the rise of zodiac inspired jewellery for sale. I remember these being popular in the eighties. Tina Tang was my first discovery. Since then I have noticed more and more for sale including Kimberly Faith Jewllery at http://www.couturecandy.com/kimberly-faith/sign-triple-charm-necklace-in-gold/product.html

I had these designs in my sketchbook from a long time ago. Today, at last, I have found the time to handcarve an elephant and bird. These will be sent to cast in silver next week. Once cleaned up and a mould made, these will be on sale in Frilldesign ETSY shop. I will post pictures of the final pieces on Frilldesign blog.

With stunning packaging and jewellery to match is there anything Zoe and Morgan can do wrong. Their website is stylish and new (nice to see jewellery design moving away from the traditional retail jeweller look).
There jewellery collection is not comprehensive on their website: http://www.zoeandmorgan.com/zm.htm
However its best to browse Zoe and Morgan stockist list to see their collection. One includes

After my day out in London, I cannot omit this necklace. Its lovely for £12. Its articulated either side of the solid/attached 3 leaves in the middle. Unfortunately I cannot find it on Accessorize website so it maybe last seasons?http://www.monsoon.co.uk/icat/accessorizejewellery&bklist=icat,4,shop,accessorize,accessorizejewellery

Above, figure of 8 after forming and soldering...some difference after a polish. A customer bought a leather necklace to double over as a bracelet. The bracelet would unfold, so I made a silver figure of 8 (clasp/holder) to keep the strands together. Made by me for Jewelled www.jewelled.info

Above Earrings and a pendant (bottom right) from Accessorize
Above displayed V&A : 1800 - 1900 Gold earrings from Oporto
Above displayed at V&A: European 1st century-4th century gold emerald matrix earrings, below also displayed at V&A: Pique, tortoiseshell inlaid with gold ca, 1850 England.
Saturday was a busy day in London. I went to The V&A to look at The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery. Sadly because of security I was unable to take pictures. Its a stunning display (much better than the turnstile gallery days).
All the details of the display can be found here http://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/fashion/features/jewellery/index.html
I also had a look around Accessorize. Costume jewellery is great for ever changing trend. £6.00 a pair of earrings, they are are not precious. Above are some earrings that caught my eye at The V&A and at Accessorize.
